balling with Korean legends
In the early morning of Tuesday June 17, Scott, a member of the Washington DC Korean team, received a chat from a friend in Korea. Scott and his friend met years ago during his time in Korea, while playing in the Korean Basketball League. The message was vague, but it said that there were some Korean athletes in the DC area who were interested in playing basketball with some of the Korean players in the DC area. It was nothing serious, maybe some 3 on 3. Scott's friend said something about one of the players being a former KBL player himself and few other athletes were there for some casual basketball, nothing overly competitive. As Scott started to reach out to players many were curious about these athletes and chose to come out and play.
To Scott's surprise, the former KBL player was none other than his former KBL teammate from the Orions, Kim Seung Hyun (Picture 1). The last time Scott saw him was in 2012, when Scott was visiting Korea, it was definitely a pleasant surprise. Along with his former teammate, Korean World Cup team member Lee Chun Soo (Pic2) and former Major League Pitcher, Kim Byung Hyun (Pic 3) were also on hand. While the 3 on 3 games were not the most competitive, players on both sides enjoyed the camaraderie and the fellowship that was shared through basketball. While DC players were excited to meet athletes that represented Korea in professional and international play, the Korean players were excited to meet the players from DC, especially Joe, who stands at 6'9". "It was great to hang out with some true Korean legends and to continue to build camaraderie among our pool of dc Korean national team basketball players," said Billy Kim, one of the veteran and leader of the DC Korean basketball team, who participated in the event.
